Tulipanes film sponsored by the Alliance for Cultural and Ethnic Harmony/Gary Pepe Memorial Fund.  Documentary depicting lives of contemporary Mexican American migrants and their struggles to educate their children while obtaining employment.  Centered around the daughter, Liliana, as she enters high school; follows the family as it moves back and forth between their home in Texas and the California agricultural fields, and the impact on the young woman.  Part of Tulipanes Latino Art and Film Festival.  At Knickerbocker Theatre, 8th Street, Holland.

TODAY, Mon, Aug 24, 3 pm and 4:30 pm:  Michigan Civil Rights Commission holds two meetings: Business meeting at 3 pm and a public forum at 4:30 pm on issues of migrant farmworkers.  Last opportunity for public testimony on concerns faced by people in the agricultural industry.  The Commission and other groups gathered information this summer that will be included with the public testimonies in a report to be released this Fall.  www.michigan.gov/mdcr  (517) 241-3986. Tues, Aug 18, 6:30 pm: Community feedback and input meeting on housing for people with disabilities in Ottawa County.  Everyone welcome.  Disability Network/Lakeshore and a community research team have been studying this issue and have prepared a report of their findings.  At Herrick District Library lower level meeting room, 300 South River, Holland.
