TONIGHT, Tues, July 28, 7 pm: "The American Way of War: Economics, War and Peace," talk by Rev. Henry Idema, associate pastor, Grace Episcopal Church.  Sponsored by Lakeshore Women for Peace; 335-2686.  At Herrick District Library, 300 South River, Holland.

 

Fri, July 31, 7 pm: First International Food Cook-Off; includes food, art,music, prizes.  $10 tickets at the door to taste and vote for dishes; event is free if you enter a dish in the contest.  Vegetarian, vegan entries encouraged.  To register your dish, email info@hfainc.org.   Proceeds benefit African Community Center of Michigan and its efforts to help African refugees resettle in West Michigan.  At St. Cecilia's Music Society, 24 Ransom St NE, Grand Rapids.

COMPUTER CLASSES:  Latin Americans United for Progress (LAUP) has a new round of computer classes, starting Monday, Aug 3.  Donation of $10 is requested at registration, but there is no charge for the classes, which meet once a week for six weeks, three hours at a time.  Registration is required.  Contact Leroy Hernandez or Val Molina at (616) 392-5058 for information or to register.  At LAUP Computer Lab, Midtown Center, 16th St and Pine Ave, Holland.

 

COMMUNITY OPPORTUNITY: The Lakeshore Latino Outreach Center will hold a garage sale Fri, Aug 14, and Sat, Aug 15, and needs donated goods for the sale.  If you have items to contribute, please bring them to the LLOC office at 345 East 16th St, Suite 241 (corner of 16th and Fairbanks) Holland, Monday through Friday from 9 am to 4:30 pm.  After-hours donations can be arranged by contacting Todd Rathjen at (616) 886-7268.  Proceeds from the garage sale will help the Center provide assistance to the community, especially Latinos.  All donations are tax-deductible.
