TONIGHT, Mon, Nov 22, 7 pm: Film, "With God on Our Side," sponsored by Friends of Palestinians and Israelis—Holland Group; voices the theology of Christian Zionism and a biblical alternative that would promote peace and reconciliation for both Jews and Palestinians.  Second half of film shown Thurs, Dec 9.  At Herrick District Library, 300 South River, Holland.

 

Mon, Nov 29, 6:30 pm:  Presentation, "Breaking Down Poverty's Barriers." Donna Beegle, who grew up in a migrant family and was once homeless with two children, speaks about breaking free from poverty and building a more equitable society. She heads Communication Across Barriers and founded the nonprofit organization PovertyBridge.  Free, open to the public. Call Women's Center at (616) 331-2748.  Please bring personal care items (soap, shampoo, toothpaste, etc.) to be donated to domestic violence shelters.  At GVSU, Kirkhof Center, Grand River Room, Allendale.

Wed, Dec 1, 5 pm: Not Your Average Speaker Series: "Culture Shock." Four panelists focus on cultural awareness, cultural bias, diversity, and "inclusiveness" related to retaining talent—what West Michigan is doing right and where it struggles to provide an open and accepting culture, especially for newcomers and young people of diverse backgrounds. Fri, Dec 3, 7:30 pm: Holland Is Ready film series: "8 the Mormon Proposition: Equality for Some."  Documentary narrated by filmmaker Dustin Lance Black "tells the stories of citizens seeking marriage equality in California, and the efforts of the Mormon Church to oppose them."  At Park Theatre, River Ave between 10th and 11th Sts, Holland.

Sat, Dec 4, 5:30 pm: Annual Holiday Potluck and Cultural Sharing Party of the Alliance for Cultural and Ethnic Harmony (ACEH); everyone is welcome.  Please bring a dish to share from your own ethnic background and a non-perishable food item for Community Action House.  Beverages and table service are provided by ACEH.  Music, activities for children, entertainment.  New this year: a silent auction of goods and services donated by local businesses and individuals.  At First United Methodist Church, 57 West 10th St (please use 9th St entrance), Holland.
