Celebrating 20th anniversary of Americans with Disabilities Act.  Speaker Christopher Zimmerman, with Majora Carter and Dan Burden.  $35, includes dinner and presentation. Fri, Nov 12, 7 pm: General meeting of the Alliance for Cultural and Ethnic Harmony (ACEH); the public is invited.  "Reflections on Writing History from the Bottom Up," by historian Dr. William Cohen, Hope College: "issues and opportunities that arise as we try to write history that is both inclusive and historically accurate."  He has written on Thomas Jefferson and on African American migration from the Civil War to World War I.  392-5086 or www.harmonyalliance.org  At Center for Women in Transition, 411 Butternut, Holland.

 

Sat, Nov 13, 9 am until 5 pm:  2nd annual holiday arts and crafts bazaar of Lakeshore Latino Outreach Center,  featuring handmade jewelry, local artwork, knitted and crocheted items, baked goods, gifts in a jar, and homemade piñatas.  Proceeds  support the agency's community programs, particularly assisting Latinos.  At St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church multipurpose room, 195 West 13th St, Holland.

 

Tues, Nov 16, 9 am to 2:30 pm: "Men, Masculinity and Media," by author, filmmaker and educator Dr. Jackson Katz ("Tough Guise" and "The Macho Paradox: Why Some Men Hurt Women and How All Men Can Help").  Interactive training "to inspire men and women to work together to prevent abusive attitudes and behaviors."  $30 fee ($45 with CEU), includes lunch.  Register by Nov. 14 at www.gvsu.edu/women_cen  Sponsored by Center for Women in Transition, Delta Project, GVSU Women's Center, Hope College Women's Studies, and Men's Resource Center of West Michigan. Thurs, Nov 18, 11:30 am to 1 pm: Soup for All: fundraiser for Ottawa Area Housing Coalition, which assists people who are homeless or facing homelessness.
