ACEH was founded in Holland in 1999 and is committed to justice, equal
opportunity, cross-cultural understanding, and appreciation for
diversity. Members and friends work together through programs,
outreach, advocacy, and social events to make West Michigan a place

Cuentos in Español (Storytime in Spanish). Diviértase con su pequeño!

Tues, Sept 24, 3 to 6 pm: Davenport University Volunteer Fair.
Community organizations, including ACEH, will share information about
their activities, events, and need for volunteers. At Davenport
Holland Campus Student Lounge, 643 South Waverly Rd, Holland.

Tues, Sept 24, 7 pm: "Reforming Education Here and Now—Complex,
Collaborative, Creative." Organized by League of Women Voters -
Holland to introduce the Common Core State Standards and the new
Smarter Balanced Assessments that will replace the MEAP tests.
Presenters; Q & A. www.lwvholland.org Within a few days after the

Wed, Sept 25, 2 pm: "Abraham Lincoln: Emancipation and its Legacies in
the United States and Abroad," by Dr. Richard Carwardine, president of
Corpus Christi College, University of Oxford, noted scholar on Abraham
Lincoln and 19th century politics and religion. (616) 396-7867. At

Holland. (At 4 pm in Graves Hall on campus, he will speak on "Abraham
Lincoln and the Lessons of Leadership.")

Wed, Sept 25 (also Thurs, Sept 26), 7:30 pm: Film, "A Place at the
Table"; 90-minute documentary starring Jeff Bridges focuses on food
crises through the eyes of three families. Sponsored by local and
national organizations concerned with hunger in America. $6 general
admission, $5 seniors; free to Hope students. At Knickerbocker

Thurs, Sept 26, 12:15 pm: Film, "Against the Odds: The Artists of the
Harlem Renaissance."
6:30 pm: Harlem Renaissance Poetry Reading. Events in connection
with exhibit, "Promise of Freedom: Selections from the Arthur Primas
Collection"-- 75 paintings, sculptures, works on paper, graphics,
documents showcasing African American artists from last 150 years.

Wed, Oct 2, 7 pm: 19th Diversity Series Lecture of the Woodrick
Diversity Learning Center at GRCC:
"Immigration—Not Legal; Not Leaving," by Jose Antonio Vargas, advocate
and award-winning journalist who wrote the NY Times essay "My Life as
an Undocumented Immigrant." At Fountain Street Church, 24 Fountain St,
Grand Rapids.

Sat, Oct 5, noon to 2 pm: Viva la Vida Festival event sponsored by City
of Holland and Westcore Neighbors. Día de los Muertos children's
