Reminders: ACEH meeting tonight; Viva la Vida events Saturday

Alliance for Cultural and Ethnic Harmony Meeting: Friday

Fri, Oct 11, 7 pm: "Connecting People in Holland: Hear All About It."
People from two Holland neighborhood organizations: Heights of Hope and
Westcore Neighbors, and the life enrichment coordinator from a local
nursing and rehab facility, will speak to the general meeting of the
Alliance for Cultural and Ethnic Harmony (ACEH).

Mandy Bullers Hutcheson of Heights of Hope and Raul Garcia of Westcore
Neighbors will tell about their groups, what they are doing, and their
plans for the future. Ron Schuster of Tendercare will discuss the need
for and benefits of connecting older people and the wider community.

This Week's Viva la Vida Events

Sat, Oct 12, 10 am to noon: Workshop to make nichos with Anna and Luz
Martinez. Traditional Mexican and Latin American folk craft to create
small calaveras (little skeletons) for a decorated nicho (altar box).
Ages 12 and up; space is limited. $5 suggested donation. At Holland
Area Arts Council, 150 East 8th St, Holland.

Sat, Oct 12, noon to 2 pm: Workshop, with Jess Hacker, to create relief
prints in the spirit of Día de los Muertos. Reserve a spot at
info@cultureworksica.com. Drop-ins also welcome; open to all ages. $5
suggested donation. At CultureWorks, 710 Chicago Dr, Holland.

Sat, Oct 12, 6 pm to 8 pm: Opening reception and talk by artist Roli
Mancera, who has created a 14-foot floating ofrenda "Sos de la Tierra"
(We are of the Earth) for Viva la Vida/Día de los Muertos. Ofrenda is
on exhibit until Nov. 2. At Holland Area Arts Council, 150 East 8th
St, Holland.
