Come to the Party! December 6
Is Annual ACEH Holiday Potluck

Friends old and new, long-time Michigan residents and newcomers to this area, elders, couples, singles, families and children of all ages, people of every ethnic and cultural background--YOU are warmly invited to the 14th annual Holiday Potluck and Cultural Sharing Party of the Alliance for Cultural and Ethnic Harmony (ACEH).

WHEN:  Saturday, December 6, from 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

WHERE:  First United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall,
57 West 10th Street, Holland (use 9th Street entrance).  The building is barrier-free.

WHAT:  Potluck of delicious foods. Music by Greg Hulsebos. Dances of India by adult and youth ensembles; instrumental and vocal music by the reigning Juneteenth Princess, Gezelle Kingdom-Grier; and holiday variations on salsa and merengue by Moses Mares.

COST:  The party is free, but we ask that you contribute a dish to share, from your own cultural background (add the recipe!), and bring a healthy food item or paper/hygiene product for the Community Action House food bank.  ACEH provides beverages and table service for the potluck.

WHAT ELSE?:  A silent auction and a raffle of wonderful goods and services donated by generous individuals and businesses. (See list below.) Proceeds help support our programs, publications, outreach, partnerships, community events, and scholarships for Upward Bound students.

VOLUNTEERS:  Would you like to help out with the party?  ACEH can use more volunteers for set-up (the morning of December 6), various activities during the event, and then for clean-up of the church's Fellowship Hall.  To volunteer, or for general information about the event, call 396-2201.

Community Kwanzaa Celebration
Set for Sunday, December 28

"Ujima: The Collective Work IS Our Responsibility" is the theme chosen for this year's
community celebration of Kwanzaa at 4 pm Sunday, December 28 at Maple Avenue Ministries, 427 Maple Ave, Holland.  The community is invited.

The celebration will include African drumming and dance, children's story telling, exhibits, and more. For information, please contact Rev. Denise Kingdom Grier at pastorofembracing@gmail.com

Kwanzaa, a week-long (Dec. 26-Jan 1) celebration of family, community, and culture, is held in the United States and in the Western African Diaspora in other nations of the Americas. Using seven core principles, Kwanzaa honors African heritage in African-American culture. It was created by Maulana Karenga, and first celebrated in 1966–67.
