If so, please consider joining ACEH or renewing your membership. Your dues  help pay for  this email and all the other Alliance  activities: $20 a year ($35/two years) for an individual; $30 a year ($50/two years) for a family; $40 for nonprofits; $75 for businesses.  The ACEH fiscal year is October 1- September 30.

Saturday, Dec. 6, 5 pm to 8:30 pm:  ACEH Holiday Potluck and Cultural Sharing Party.  Annual ACEH community event, with entertainment, music, children's activities, silent auction, great food, fun and fellowship.
---Please bring a dish to share from your cultural background, and a nonperishable, healthy food, paper product, or personal hygiene item for local food bank. 
---ACEH provides beverages and table service.
---Great variety of silent auction items: many restaurant/coffee shop cards, gift baskets, specialty crafts, paintings and photographs, office supplies, and lots more fun and interesting items.  CASH or CHECKS only, please.
 
At First United Methodist Church, 57 West 10th, Holland (use 9th Street entrance).  This is an accessible facility.

Sat, Dec 6, 4 pm:  Presentation on President Obama's executive action on immigration.  Attorneys from Avanti Law Group will "explain the program, who qualifies, who does not qualify, and what you can do to begin preparing if you do qualify."  Question and answer session follows.  At 34th Street Mall, Division Ave and 34th St, Grand Rapids.
 
 
Mon, Dec 8: Deadline for submitting nominations for City of Holland's 2014 Social Justice Awards (categories are Housing, Education, Employment, Government/Community Relations, and Youth).  For more information or forms, contact Esther Fifelski, human relations coordinator, (616) 355-1321.
 
Wed, Dec 10, 11:30 am-1:30 pm:  Documentary, "Our Fires Still Burn: The Native American Experience," followed by discussion with the film's producer Audrey Geyer and Levi Rickert, editor of Native News Online.  One-hour film focuses on lives of contemporary Native American role models living in the Midwest.  $20 includes lunch.  Register at prfc-gr.org and click on Register Now button or mail check to PRFC, 250 Commerce Ave SW, Grand Rapids 49503.  Sponsored by Partners for a Racism-Free Community.  At Dominican Center at Marywood, 2025 Fulton St E, Grand Rapids (parking off Lakeside).
 
Community Opportunity:  Community Action House is scheduling interviews (until Dec 19) for participation in its EPIC (Empowering People in Our Community) program which offers coaching and assistance for better employment and career opportunities.  Program dates are Jan 5 - June 20, 2015.  Contact Patricia Reilly at (616) 392-2368, ext. 113, to schedule an interview.
 
Candlelight Vigils:  Silent progressive candlelight vigils in support of Jonathan Bracamontes' family will continue on the 30th day of December and January, beginning at 6 pm at Riley St. and US 31 and continuing through the evening across from Thermatron Industries and then in downtown Holland.  Jonathan, a West Ottawa student, died September 30 near Riley and US 31 after he was hit by a car.  Community members have protested that the Ottawa County prosecutor only charged the driver with a misdemeanor.  For more information, contact hlr4latinosbylatinos@gmail.com
