Mon, Aug 10, 6 pm to 8 pm: Destination Education "Off to College Party" for students going to college or returning to college.  Students' entire families invited also, for games and food.  First 120 college students will receive a College Survival Kit and a chances to win larger prizes.  RSVPs requested but not required, at http://ow.ly/LE1hF  Those who register will be entered in a special drawing for an iPad mini.  At Kollen Park picnic pavilion, 240 Kollen Park Blvd, Holland.
 
Tues, Aug 11, 7 pm: "Racism: A Call to Conversion and Hope."  Prayer service against racism "to remind us that we need to live as brothers and sisters, to convert our hearts, to recognize the blessing that every culture brings to our country and our world." At St. Francis de Sales Church, 13th St. and Maple Ave, Holland.
 
Thurs, Aug 13, 7 pm:  "Women of Color: Leading the Way in the Workplace."  Six panelists will share stories and talk about what it mean to be a woman of color on the job--how do you find and work with a mentor? How do you face barriers or overcome biases? How can our community support women of color?  What does it take to lead fearlessly?  (616) 988-5400. Sat, Aug 15, 11 am: Salsa Showdown public tasting of salsas by amateur cooks and professional chefs using ingredients from the Eighth St. Farmers Market.  Jalapeno Eating Contest is at noon.  Registration forms and rules and regulations for Salsa Showdown and for Jalapeno Eating Contest are at www.salsashowdown.org    At Eighth Street Farmers Market, 8th St and Pine Ave, Holland.

Kalamazoo Air Zoo:  "Black Wings," history of African American pilots, others in the aviation; more than 70 photographs, film clips, artifacts, aircraft models.  Traveling exhibit from Smithsonian Institution and National Air and Space Museum.  Open daily, varying hours. Opening Thurs, July 23:  Holland Museum:  "Documented: The Stories of Latinos in Holland" explores Holland's migrant community and its impact on Holland.  Also, a collection from Michigan State: "Immigration and Caricature," the role of caricature and stereotype in forming American values and attitudes, with images from the Civil War to World War I.
