 Sat, Feb 24, 6 pm to 8 pm:  Annual International Food Fair.  Sponsored by Hope College international students; celebrates the many cuisines and cultures of nations represented by members of the Hope community.  Admission $5 for a packet of 5 tickets; additional tickets are 50 cents each; most dishes cost one or two tickets.  Event funds support TASSEL, a nonprofit assisting rural Cambodians.  At Maas Center auditorium, Hope College, Columbia Ave at 11th St, Holland.

 Thurs, Mar 1, 7 pm:  Jack Ridl Visiting Writers Series:  Poet, editor, and rap artist Nate Marshall ("Wild Hundreds"; "The BreakBeat Poets: New American Poetry in the Age of Hip-Hop" and novelist Karen Russell ("Swamplandia"; "St. Lucy's Home for Girls Raised by Wolves") will present from their works.  At Jack Miller Recital Hall, Columbia Ave at 10th St, Holland.  

     ------3:30 pm:  Marshall and Russell will have a Q&A session at Martha Miller Center, Fried-Hemenway Auditorium, Columbia Ave at 10th St, Holland.

 Sun, Mar 4, 4 pm:  "Night at the Black History Museum," play by young people depicting leaders in black history.  Family-friendly event.  Free-will offering.  At Maple Avenue Ministries, 427 Maple Ave, Holland.

Mon, Mar 5, 7 pm: Making Impact: Women of Change."  Panelists share how each has helped shape the Holland area on a professional and personal level, what kinds of supports are needed, and more; moderated by Diana Nelson.  Panelists are Jane Dickie, Rev. Dr. Denise Kingdom-Grier, Sarah Leach, Lupita Reyes, and Lucia Rios.  Co-sponsored by Herrick District Library and LEDA Women's Issues Group.  At Herrick District Library, 300 S. River, Holland.

 Thurs, Mar 8, 7 pm:  Public informational meeting exploring auxiliary housing in Holland's central city, as one response to the lack of housing that is affordable for low- and moderate-income households.  Hosted by Westcore Neighbors.  At Maple Avenue Ministries Blue Room, 427 Maple Ave, Holland.

 Mon, Mar 12; Tues, Mar 13; Wed, Mar 14, 7 pm:  "Celebrating the Rich History of African American Women: Preachers, Pioneers, Innovators, Poets, Civic Leaders."  (Rescheduled from February).  At Zion Dominion Church, 288 West 14th St (at Van Raalte Ave), Holland.

 Community Opportunity

Sat, Mar 3, 11 am, or Sat, Mar 17 at 1 pm:  "What Does an Inclusive City Look Like?" The public is invited to meet with members of the Holland Human Relations Commission "to learn, explore, and discuss—and offer feedback on--what Holland's Inclusive City Initiative should look like."  At Herrick District Library, 300 S.  Exhibits

"Black Heroes/Black Friday";  through February:   Portraits of black heroes by more than 20 artists.  St. Louis, MO, artist Sarah Paulsen, who was involved in the Ferguson Movement following the officer-involved shooting death of Mike Brown, drew 50 portraits of black heroes in four days leading up to Black Friday, the largest shopping day in November and encouraged other artists to do the same.  Supported by CultureWorks.  At Herrick District Library, 300 S.  "Southern Roots: The Paintings of Winfred Rembert," through March 18:  Some 25 works, including premiere of several paintings.  Rembert's images "challenge and engage, reminding and teaching viewers of the struggles and lives of African Americans." Born in Arkansas, he picked cotton in Georgia, was arrested during a 1960s civil rights march while escaping the threat of a lynching, learned the leather trade in prison, and then transformed his new skills and life story into a unique body of art.  A video of his life is available.  www.muskegonartmuseum.org  (231) 720-2570.  Varying hours.  At Muskegon Museum of Art, 296 West Webster, Muskegon.
