 Sun, August 12, 1:30 pm to 4:30 pm: 20th anniversary Alliance for Cultural and Ethnic Harmony (ACEH) Potluck in the Park! Fun, fellowship, great food, music, entertainment, family activities, piƱata, information tables by Lighthouse Immigrant Advocates, Lakeshore Women for Peace, Women Achieve, Interfaith Allies, Cherish, ESCAPE Ministries, and Pathways.  Please bring a dish to share from your cultural background, if possible, and lawn chairs.  Tues, Aug 14, 6:30 pm:  Documentary, "The American Experience: Panama Canal," the impact of the canal on both the United States and Central America; discussion follows.  Free.  First in the Holland International Relations Commission's Film and Discussion Series: How Did We Get Here?  How Man-made Structures, the Media, and the Military Have Shaped Our World.  At Herrick District Library, 300 South River, Holland.

 Wed, Aug 15, 7 pm: "What is The Migrant Quilt Project?" presentation by project's founder, with guided interpretive tour of the quilts. (See description under Exhibit, below.) At Loutit Library, 407 Columbus Ave, Grand Haven.

 Fri, Aug 17, 5 pm:  Deadline for performers and visual artists to apply to participate in the City of Holland International Relations Commission's first International Festival.  The event will be Sat, August 17, 2019, in Kollen Park and various 8th Street locations and feature dancers, musicians, storytellers, and visual artists representing the people and cultures of Africa, Asia, Europe, and Australia, as well as Central, South, and North America.  Fri, Aug 17, 7 pm meeting; 8 pm program:  PFLAG meeting, to take part in an Inclusive Cities exercise and discussion facilitated by the Holland Human Relations Commission.  Gender SAFE support group meets at 6 pm.  At Grace Episcopal Church, 555 Michigan Ave, Holland.

 Sat, Aug 25, 7 pm:  HOSA (Humanists, Agnostics, Seekers, Atheists, and NONES) community gathering at a private home in Holland to hear a local resident share their secular journey.  Religious allies and friends are welcome.  Contact openwin@mcn.org for the address.

Many of you are financial supporters of the Alliance for Cultural and Ethnic Harmony, and you are deeply appreciated.  We're asking if others of you who read, use, forward, or otherwise benefit from this weekly email will also become members of ACEH.  Your dues are needed to help pay for "In the Community," our monthly Newsletter, educational programs, partnerships with other groups, outreach and advocacy, and community social events twice a year.

 Dues are $20 per year for an individual ($35, two years); $30 per year for a couple or family ($50, two years); $40 for a nonprofit; and $75 for a business.  In lieu of (or in addition to) paying dues, you may join as a service member, volunteering for the group.  ACEH is a 501c3 organization.
