 Mon, April 25, 6:30 pm, (opening comments at 6:45 pm):  Reception to view the exhibit "Our Asian Pacific American Community"; includes more than 40 stories /photos of local Asian Pacific American residents.  Free. Presented by partnership of Herrick District Library, LAUP, City of Holland, Holland Museum, GVSU, and St. Francis de Sales parish.  At Herrick District Library auditorium, 300 South River, Holland.

 Mon, April 25, 6:30 pm: "Comin' to America": Creating Community with Newcomers.  2nd in 3-part series "The West Michigan Response to Refugees."  Presenter: Bing Goei, director, State of Michigan Office for New Americans, will discuss federal requirements for entering the U.S. as a refugee and offer factual data on the economic costs and benefits of developing refugee and immigrant talent in Michigan.  Free.  Organized by World Affairs Council of Western Michigan.  (616) 776-1721 At Kent District Library, Kentwood Branch, 4950 Breton SE, Kentwood.

 Tues, May 17, 8:30 am – 3 pm: Summit 2016: Inclusion in Action.  Keynote speakers Aaron Dworkin and Randall Mitsuo Goosby; breakout sessions in business, community, faith, health, education, and government and public policy.  $50 includes lunch, keynotes, one breakout session, and afternoon panel.  There will be no onsite registration; register now at www.ethnicdiversity.orgOrganized by Lakeshore Ethnic Diversity Alliance, with area sponsors and collaborating organizations, including ACEH.   

 

Community Opportunities

4-H Cultural Competency series:   Would you like to share something from your family's heritage with elementary students? 4-H and Herrick District Library need adults and older teens to help children learn about aspects of different cultures (food, music, art, holidays, dances, or traditional dress/clothing)--whichever one or ones that you'd like to talk about or demonstrate with the children.  Meets Thursday afternoons in June or July.  Contact Susan at (616) 994-4543 or fentons@msu.edu

 Dues are $20 per year for an individual ($35, two years); $30 per year for a couple or family ($50, two years; $40 per year for a nonprofit; and $75 per year for a business.  In lieu of (or in addition to) paying dues, you may join as a service member, volunteering for the group.  ACEH is a 501c3 organization.
