Fri, Aug 14, 3 pm until 8 pm, and Sat, Aug 15, 8 am until 4 pm:: Garage sale to benefit the Lakeshore Latino Outreach Center and its efforts to assist the community, especially Latinos.  Items for sale include clothes, furniture, electronics, and much more.  Call 499-4872 or 886-268. Tues, Aug 18, 6:30 pm: Community feedback and input meeting on housing for people with disabilities in Ottawa County.  Everyone welcome.  Disability Network/Lakeshore and a community research team have been studying this issue and have prepared a report of their findings.  At Herrick District Library lower level meeting room, 300 South River, Holland.

 

COMMUNITY OPPORTUNITIES:

 

---ALL FOR ONE DANCE group is looking for a hip-hop dance instructor who can volunteer on Saturday mornings (beginning Sept 12, for 8 weeks, from 10 to 11 am) to teach students over age 12.  Contact Norma Luna at moonchild1993@yahoo.com
 

---Applications are being accepted until Friday, Aug 14, for the fall Citizens Police Academy of the Holland Police Department.  (A waiting list of applicants is currently being established.)  Applicants must be at least 17 years old; live in Holland, a neighboring township, or Ottawa County; or work in Holland.  A brief background check will be made.  The Academy is offered once a year and participants meet on Mondays from 6 to 9 pm, for 10 weeks starting September 14.  Topics include the various divisions of the department, including drug enforcement, gang activity, domestic violence, K-9, drunk driving, probation and the court system, plus a tour of Ottawa County central dispatch and the county jail.  Applications are available at the Holland Police Department, 89 West 8th Street, or by calling Lori Boeve, 355-1140.  For additional information, check the website www.hollandpd.com
