Wed, Jan 8, 12:30 pm:  Calvin College January Series: Speaker (by video): Isabel Wilkerson, "The Epic Story of America's Great Migration." A Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist, Wilkerson spent 15 years interviewing 1,200 people for this epic nonfiction story of the decades-long migration of black citizens who fled the South for northern and western cities in search of a better life.  From 1915 to 1970, "this exodus of almost 6 million people changed the face of America and has become known as the Great Migration."  Free.  At Christ Memorial Church, 595 Graafschap Rd, Holland.

Community Opportunity: Food Distribution Friday, Nov 8
Surplus food commodities supplied by the U.S. Department of Agriculture
will be distributed by Ottawa County Community Action Agency on Friday,
Nov 8 at four locations in the county. Boxes of food distributed to
income-qualified families* will contain apple juice, green beans,
carrots, cranberry juice concentrate, egg noodles, grapefruit juice,
shelf stable milk, rolled oats, peanut butter, pears, canned pork,
potato flakes, and cream of mushroom soup.

Proof of income is verbal only but proof of residence is required (such
as a driver's license, utility bill, lease agreement, tax bill, trash
collection bill, etc.) Families are allowed food from one location
only. Families who are in the Family Independence Program or SNAP
program are automatically eligible.

People from two Holland neighborhood organizations: Heights of Hope and
Westcore Neighbors, and the life enrichment coordinator from a local
nursing and rehab facility, will speak to the general meeting of the
Alliance for Cultural and Ethnic Harmony (ACEH).

Mandy Bullers Hutcheson of Heights of Hope and Raul Garcia of Westcore
Neighbors will tell about their groups, what they are doing, and their
plans for the future. Ron Schuster of Tendercare will discuss the need
for and benefits of connecting older people and the wider community.

Sat, Oct 12, 10 am to noon: Workshop to make nichos with Anna and Luz
Martinez. Traditional Mexican and Latin American folk craft to create
