Community Opportunity: Food Distribution Friday, Nov 8
Surplus food commodities supplied by the U.S. Department of Agriculture
will be distributed by Ottawa County Community Action Agency on Friday,
Nov 8 at four locations in the county. Boxes of food distributed to
income-qualified families* will contain apple juice, green beans,
carrots, cranberry juice concentrate, egg noodles, grapefruit juice,
shelf stable milk, rolled oats, peanut butter, pears, canned pork,
potato flakes, and cream of mushroom soup.
Proof of income is verbal only but proof of residence is required (such
as a driver's license, utility bill, lease agreement, tax bill, trash
collection bill, etc.) Families are allowed food from one location
only. Families who are in the Family Independence Program or SNAP
program are automatically eligible.

Justice for Our Neighbors-West Michigan seeks a half-time (flexible, 20
hours per week; $11-$14 per hour depending on qualifications) legal
assistant who will be based in Grand Rapids and perform general office
operations, client management support, and assistance to the JFON
attorney in the Holland and Grand Rapids immigration clinics.
Requirements: commitment to public interest law and to the
enfranchisement and empowerment of newcomer immigrant communities,
appreciation of the spiritual principles of the work, and ability to
work sensitively with diverse volunteers and clients. Foreign language
ability, in particular Spanish, is necessary; BIA accreditation or

People from two Holland neighborhood organizations: Heights of Hope and
Westcore Neighbors, and the life enrichment coordinator from a local
nursing and rehab facility, will speak to the general meeting of the
Alliance for Cultural and Ethnic Harmony (ACEH).
Mandy Bullers Hutcheson of Heights of Hope and Raul Garcia of Westcore
Neighbors will tell about their groups, what they are doing, and their
plans for the future. Ron Schuster of Tendercare will discuss the need
for and benefits of connecting older people and the wider community.
